“Today I share with you one of my favourite discoveries this past weekend: The Notorious XX. This album is an experiment by Wait What that puts Biggie’s nearly immortal lyrics over top of The Xx’s self-titled debut. And for the most part it works. To those unfamiliar with The Xx, I’m sure it could sound like a straight overlay of lyrics to instrumentation, but there’s definitely been some mixing and cutting and mashing at play. And like any good remix, this reimagining of the music at hand reveals a softer side to B.I.G., while showing how The Xx can be more than just pretty sounding hipsters.”
